Sterling Women’s Institute’s Christmas Craft Show

Tickets for the quilt and a gift basket worth more than $200 were sold at the Sterling Women’s Institute’s Christmas craft show, in Stanley Bridge, on Saturday, Nov 30. The event drew hundreds of early Christmas shoppers. Money from the gift basket and quilt raffle will go towards needed renovations at the former Stanley Bridge United Church.

An Evening of Music – A Successful Fundraising Event

The “Men in Motion” Masonic Choir and the “Just for Fun” Community Choir gave a rousing performance in front of an appreciative audience at the New London Community Complex on Sunday, Nov 17.

At the evening’s end choir members were treated to a wide variety of delicious finger foods and deserts, prepared by Stanley Bridge Memorial Society members. Proceeds from the successful event will go to the Stanley Bridge Memorial Building Fund, which will be used to renovate the former Stanley Bridge United Church (de-commissioned in 2008). When completed the extensive renovations will transform the enduring landmark into a thriving cultural and events centre.

An Evening of Music

At 7 pm, Sunday, Nov 17, the Island Masonic Choir, Men in Motion, and the Milton Anglican Church Community Choir, Just For Fun, will present an evening of music in the New London Community Complex. Tickets, at $10 each, can be purchased from Joan Harding, at 954-0077, Eliza MacEwen, at 886-2592 and Rowan Caseley, at 836-5445. Proceeds will support the Stanley Bridge Cultural Events Centre Building Fund.

2013 – 2014 Quilt Raffle

The Centennial Quilt, named in honour of the province’s 150th anniversary in 2014, is valued at more than $1,200. The quilt was spread out across pews at the former Stanley Bridge United Church recently. Tickets will be sold over the coming months and money from the sale will support needed renovations at the former church. Tickets will be available, at five dollars apiece, on November 3 at the New London Community Complex’s Christmas craft sale, 10 am to 2 pm.

Quilt Raffle Winner


Due to weather the Saturday drawing for the quilt was postponed until Monday, December 17. There were 60 – 70 people in attendance. The winner of the quilt was Janet Cotton of New London.

The winner of the prize basket in the ticket purchase draw at the New London Community Complex Craft Fair was Jim Weeks of Stanley Bridge.

The winner of the prize basket in the ticket purchase draw at the Stanley Bridge WI Hall was Maureen Fryday of Stanhope.

Quilt Raffle

The current SBMSI fundraising activity, the raffle of the Kimona quilt, will come to a conclusion with the draw for a winner at our December concert at New London WI Hall.
