Stanley Bridge cemetery gets facelift

There’s been a remarkable transformation at the Stanley Bridge Cemetery, established in 1870. Volunteers with the Cavendish United Church, assisted by members of the Stanley Bridge Memorial Society, recently restored a graveyard that had fallen into major disrepair over the years, made worse by the brutal winter of 2014-2015. Many headstones that had fallen over were repaired and placed back on their proper footings. Headstones were also cleaned so the names would be more visible. Large amounts of topsoil and seed were also brought in to improve the cemetery’s appearance. Volunteers expressed their deep appreciation for the help of Gordon Toombs, a trustee with the Cavendish United Church. Organizers are hoping to contact the descendants of family members buried at the cemetery in a bid to create a directory.001 005 006
